How to replace the Rack and Pinion Boot on Chevrolet Corvette?

The j 22610 keystone clamp pliers (J 22610) removes the outer tie rod followed by hex jam nut removal from the inner tie rod assembly. The installation process begins by extracting the tie rod end clamp off the Rack and Pinion Boot while using side cutters to remove the boot clamp from the unit. Discard the old clamp. The gear rack now requires removal of its boot after removing the Rack And Pinion assembly from the Rack And Pinion gear. To assemble place the new boot clamp onto the Rack and Pinion Boot and lubricate the inner tie rod assembly and Rack And Pinion gear assembly and finally attach the new Rack and Pinion Boot to the inner tie rod assembly. Check that the Rack and Pinion Boot maintains a smooth, undistorted shape without folds. If necessary for proper positioning, gently reshape the boot by hand before placing it in the Rack And Pinion gear assembly groove. The installer should readjust it carefully by hand before placing the boot into the gear assembly groove. Use the j 22610 to crimp securely the new boot clamp onto the Rack and Pinion Boot. Use pliers to squeeze the Rack and Pinion Boot while placing the tie rod end clamp onto position. Afterward, install the hex jam nut on the inner tie rod assembly . End your work by assembling the outer tie rod assembly.
