2005 Chevrolet Corvette Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace a Rack and Pinion Boot on 2005 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: To replace it with the rack and pinion boot you will first apply the outer tie rod removal process and then take the nut off of the inner tie rod assembly and tie rod clamp. Next, use side cutters to take out and dispose of the boot clamp before removing the rack and pinion boot. For installation, lay the new boot clamp on the rack and pinion boot and grease up the inner rod and gear assembly before installing the boot into the inner tie rod assembly. Do not twist or build a mismatched rack and pinion boot; if necessary, shape it with hand before inserting it into the gear assembly groove. After seating, install a boot clamp around the boot with the J 22610 Keystone Clamp Pliers (J 22610) and crimp the boot here. Finally, attach the boot's tie rod end clamp by using pliers for guidance, or by placing a jam nut on the inner assembly of the tie rod, and then reinstate the outer rod return the system to its condition it was before.
