2004 Chevrolet Corvette Ignition Lock Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the ignition lock cylinder on 2004 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Begin by setting the parking brake then disconnecting the negative Battery Cable when you plan to replace the Ignition Lock Cylinder. First remove the console together with the ip accessory trim plate and driver knee bolster trim panel. First disconnect the Ignition Lock Cylinder electrical connector from its retaining tab before you remove the cylinder. Use a flat bladed screwdriver to depress and hold the Ignition Lock Cylinder retaining tab on the rh lower side of the Ignition Switch. This will enable you to pull out the lock cylinder while keeping the wire in its proper location on the base of the Ignition Switch bezel. Carefully pull the Ignition Switch bezel to detach it from its mounting position. When installing the Ignition Switch bezel attach it to the lock cylinder by placing the wire around the base in the same manner from removal then align the bezel slots to the pins before pushing to lock it into position. Insert the Ignition Lock Cylinder through the key slot into the Ignition Switch and push until the retaining tab makes an audible click. Ensure the Ignition Lock Cylinder is fully engaged by attempting to pull it out; it should not be removable. Follow this procedure by first turning off the ignition and removing the key followed by attaching the Ignition Lock Cylinder electrical connector to the retaining tab. Install the console along with ip accessory trim plate and driver knee bolster trim panel. Hang the negative Battery Cable before tightening the bolt to 15 n.m (11 lb ft) and establishing transmitter programming. Conduct a loop test of ignition function by turning through all positions after releasing the parking brake to verify the key removal only functions when the ignition is fully off.
