What should be inspected to determine if a steering column is damaged or misaligned after an accident on 2004 Chevrolet Corvette?

A Steering Column suffers damage or misalignment as a result of any accident outcome that causes frame damage or major body damage or sheet metal damage or Steering Column impact or deployment of the supplemental inflatable restraints system. Check the reliability of all the Steering Column bracket capsules which must be fully positioned into their respective bracket openings while examining for free movement after manual push and pull tests. The repair method for this bracket depends on its attachment type to the jacket assembly. Replace only the bracket when it has bolted connections to ensure capsule safety but do jacket assembly replacement when the bracket is welded to the structure. The jacket assembly should be replaced if a measurement from the lower edge of the upper jacket to the defined point on the lower jacket does not align with specified dimensions. Visual inspection of the Steering Shaft should be conducted to detect sheared injected plastic. The Steering Shaft needs replacement when any sheared plastic is observed. A dial indicator should be used to measure the lower end of the Steering Shaft while the wheel rotates to check for any frame damage leading to shaft bending. The runout should not exceed 0.06-inch (1.60-mm).
