All vehicle keys include dual-use features but master keys and valet keys incorporate safety transponders to connect with security systems as emergency keys function separately from these features to lock doors and the trunk. A five-digit key tag number generates the key code to unlock multiple locks or use the valet key only for front door access and ignition functions. Cutting key keys requires the use of blank keys that need precise depth and sequence cuts before mechanical inspections occur in every lock cylinder. Seven precise cuts exist in ignition lock cylinders where technicians must accurately position tumbler springs and tumblers then check their alignment with the cylinder's diameter followed by surface lubrication. The front side Door Lock cylinder operates with 7 cut positions under identical assembly and inspection guidelines as the rear compartment lid lock cylinder. The i/p storage compartment lock cylinder requires 4 cut positions as part of its configuration while it includes a stability-retaining tumbler. Lock cylinder assembly demands inserting tumbler springs followed by proper tumbler sequencing before performing lubrication checks and aligning components before final casing.

The Ignition Switch Lock Cylinder replacement process begins by removing the knee bolster. Start by setting the ignition switch to the run position then depress the ignition lock cylinder tab to remove the lock cylinder. When installing a new lock cylinder remember to adhere to the Key and Lock Cylinder Coding procedures. The replacement sequence concludes with installation of the ignition lock cylinder followed by knee bolster reinstallation.
