Caring for suspension struts starts with removing the entire strut assembly from the vehicle. Secure the strut spring compressor (J 34013-B) into the holding fixture bench mount (J 3289-20) then place the strut assembly inside the strut spring compressor (J 34013-B) with lower strut spring compressor adapter (J 34013-88) installed. The coil spring compression allows dust cap removal and strut rod piston nut extraction. Uncompress the spring in strut spring compressor (J 34013-B) while pulling the strut assembly out. Start the installation process by removing the strut support , dust seal , spring seat , upper insulator , coil spring , spring bumper , and lower insulator from the strut assembly. To rebuild the strut follow this procedure: first assemble the lower insulator and spring bumper together followed by the coil spring then complete with upper insulator , spring seat and dust seal and strut support in that order. Place the strut assembly into the strut spring compressor (J 34013-B) through the lower strut spring compressor adapter (J 34013-88) to compress the coil spring for a second time. Tighten the strut rod piston nut to 47 nm (34 ft-lbs) torque. Stick wheel bearing lubricant from gm p/n 1051344 or an equivalent product into the strut support before installing the dust cap and freeing up the compressed coil spring . Purge the strut from the strut spring compressor (J 34013-B) before you can install the complete strut assembly.
