    Q:
How to Replace a Rack and Pinion in a Power Steering System on Chevrolet Aveo? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the Rack And Pinion, unfasten the negative Battery Cable before starting. Turn the Steering Wheel to position the tires straight ahead, remove the intermediate shaft and front tires. Drain the fluid in the power steering and disconnect the Rack And Pinion inlet and outlet pipe fittings. The outer tie rod hex nuts need to be removed using the km-507-c ball joint remover (KM-507-C), after that, remove the ball joint hex nuts and remove the stabilizer shaft from the knuckle by removing the stabilizer shaft link assembly. Next, there is the removal of the cross member by using the nuts and bolts to the under body, followed by the removal of Rack And Pinion assembly by undoing the steering gear retaining bracket nuts. Connect the steering gear retaining bracket nuts to secure the Rack And Pinion assembly, putting them in place and tightening to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Replace the cross member and tighten its nuts and bolts to 150 nm (111 ft. Lbs.). Attach the ball joint hex nuts and stabilizer shaft to the knuckle, tightening the ball joint hex nuts to 45 nm (33 ft. Lbs.) and stabilizer shaft bolts to the knuckle to 45 nm (33 ft. Lbs.). Replace the outer tie rod hex nuts, tightening them to 45 nm (33 ft. Lbs) and coupling the Rack And Pinion inlet and outlet to connect pipe fittings, tightening the nuts to 22 nm (16 ft. Lbs). Mount the front tires, top up the power steering fluid with a fluid that complies with gm spec. No. 9985010 or type alike, and then mount the intermediate shaft, the Steering Wheel, and column. Lastly, attach the negative Battery Cable, check the vehicle, check the wheel alignment, and set the front toe if required.
