The process to replace front door hinges requires removal of the door and water deflector alongside the speaker accessory followed by removing extra body sealer from around the hinges. Users should first mark the positions of original hinges onto both surfaces before disconnecting the door hinges from body and Door Hinge pillars. Puncture the center of original hinge welds with a center punch before drilling initial 3mm (1/8-inch) pilot holes which should be followed by 13mm (1/2-inch) deep drilling. Remove the instrument panel and fender bolt and body hinge pillar trim panel and parking Brake Pedal assembly and door opening Weather Strip from the path of the repair before you separate the hinge from its points on both the door and body hinge pillar using a chisel. The surfaces should receive a smooth filing that removes burrs before hinge painting and medium-bodied sealer application. Set the newly installed door hinges along the Door Hinge pillar and body hinge pillar while keeping them inside the scribe marks from before. Fasten the hinges with bolts and tapped anchor plates while aligning them through the holes in the door or hinge pillar segments before securing the bolts to 35 n.m (26 lb ft). The installation order includes the fender bolt followed by the instrument panel and the body hinge pillar trim panel and finally the parking Brake Pedal assembly with the door opening Weather Strip and speaker if necessary along with the water deflector until you reach the door.

The first step in replacing the door hinge roller pin involves using the Door Hinge Spring Compressor (J 36604) to remove the door hinge spring while protecting it with a towel to avoid injuries. The C-clips which keep the door hinge roller pins stable when the door is open should be removed first. The vehicle requires a soft-faced hammer and locking pliers for removal of the door hinge roller pins. Users should move the door to a safe distance from the hinge and discard the old bushings. To install the bushings and door integrate with the hinges users should start by placing the door in position then put the roller pins back into the vehicle framework. Fasten the C-clips to secure the roller pins before installing the door hinge spring with assistance from the Door Hinge Spring Compressor (J 36604). You should apply multi-purpose lubricant Superlube (GM P/N 12346241) or an equivalent product for lubrication to the hinge roller pins.
