    Q:
How to replace the inner CV Boot and CV Joint of the axle shaft assembly on Chevrolet Corvette? Posted by Customer
    A:
In order to replace the inner joint and seal of the axle assembly, drive shaft should be removed from the vehicle first. Start by covering a shop towel around axel shaft and set the wheel Drive Shaft to lie horizontally inside a bench vise. Use a side cutter and remove the large seal retaining clamp and small seal retaining clamp from the cv joint seal and dispose of it. Remove the seal from the joint outer race, put it at the back of the joint face, and then put the wheel Drive Shaft vertically in the bench vise with the inner joint facing upwards. Push the extra joint outer race towards the vise, removing the outer race retaining ring with a tiny flat-bladed screw-driver. Take down the outer race of the Axle Shaft, trapping any balls that roll out with the seal, and take the rest of the balls out of the cage and the pinout. Wash all parts using solvent and air dry. For the installation, use the j 42572 drive axle seal clamp pliers to crimp a new small seal retaining clamp onto the wheel Drive Shaft after fitting the seal and cage. Make sure that the inner race spline relief is facing to the Axle Shaft end before installing the inner race and snap ring. Mount the inner race balls into the wheel hubs, align cage lands with inner race ball tracks and install the cage along with adding grease from the service kit to the outer cage window and cage windows. Install the outer race retaining ring and balls in the right direction and have the large diameter end of seal in the outer race. Crimp the large seal retaining clamp using the j 42572 with the gap width specifications. Finally, apply grease inside the inner cv joint, check for proper functioning, then replace the wheel Drive Shaft back into the vehicle.
