    Q:
How can broken or deteriorated engine mounts affect drive train components, and what steps should be taken to inspect and replace them on Chevrolet Corvette? Posted by Customer
    A:
One damaged mount will create unbalanced stress on surviving mounts that may cause misalignment and creates damage to drive system components. When supporting the engine for maintenance never set the jack below the Oil Pan or blouse metal or Crankshaft Pulley to stop damaging the oil pickup unit. Start the inspection of engine mounts through measuring engine movement at this location to verify rubber conditions. Apply park brake and start the engine before engaging the primary brakes firmly and sustaining pressure on them while your assistant observes engine movement through shifting between drive and reverse mode multiple times. Check for loose Engine Mount or Engine Mount bracket attachments when the engine travels over 24 mm (0.945 inches) beyond its resting position either way. Check the Engine Mount condition by analyzing it if the Engine Mount and Engine Mount bracket bolt torques meet specifications. The Engine Mount needs replacement when one detects heat check cracks on the rubber cushion surface or when the rubber weeps from the metal plate or if the rubber sustains a complete interior split.
