    Q:
How to replace the front disc brake pads on Cadillac XLR? Posted by Customer
    A:
First, you need to check the level of fluid in the brake master cylinder reservoir, in order to replace the front disc brake-pads. If it is half distance between maximum-full point and minimum allowable levels then no fluid should be removed but if it is by inches higher then trim off from the point till the mid point. Lift and support the vehicle, and then remove the tire and wheel assembly. Hand tighten a lug nut to fix the rotor to the hub. Use a large c-clamp over the brake caliper and here the ends against the rear of the caliper body and an old innboard brain pad or wood block against the caliper pistons tighten it until the caliper pistons are compressed enough to slide past the brake rotor. Remove the c-clamp, lower the brake caliper guide pin bolt, suspend the brake caliper using heavy mechanic wire to avoid the brake hose being damaged, but do not remove it. Pivot the caliper downwards and secure it in a way that there is no tension on the hose, then take off the brake pads and inspect the Brake Pad retainers. Check the caliper slide boots for wear and repair. Replace the big c-clamp to compress the caliper pistons again (completely this time), then take it off with the old Brake Pad or a block of wood. Install the new brake pads and the Brake Pad retainers, taking care to place the Brake Pad wear sensor at the right location. Pivot the brake caliper upward into the caliper bracket and install the top brake caliper guide pin bolt, torquing it to 31 n.m (23 lb ft). Again, reinstall the tire and wheel assembly, lower vehicle, while with the engine turned off equally apply the Brake Pedal gradually till almost 2/3 its travel then slowly release it. Do this 15 seconds at a time, repeat until a firm Brake Pedal and properly seat the caliper pistons and brake pads. Lastly, check the brake master cylinder reservoir and fill it to the appropriate level and burnish the pads and rotors.

    Q:
How to replace the front brake pads on Cadillac XLR? Posted by Customer
    A:
Check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder before starting work. If the fluid is at the center between maximum and minimum lines, no fluid needs to be drained but excess should be reduced to the center if fluid is above the mid-point. When raising the vehicle lift up the tire and wheel assembly before removing it. Apply your hands to thread a wheel lug nut to lock the rotor onto the hub. Insert the old inner Brake Pad or wood block against the caliper pistons under large c-clamp pressure until the pistons push through the brake rotor. Use mechanic's wire to prevent damage to the brake hose as you unplug the upper bracket and take out the guide pin bolt of the caliper portion. Lower the caliper onto its mounts without distorting the hose before checking pad retainers and brake pads when they are removed. When the slides show signs of damage replace them right away. Install the large c-clamp again to push brake pistons all the way home. Remove both the pad and clamp from their positions. Fit Brake Pad retainers and new pads on the rotor. Position the Brake Pad wear sensor towards the rear when you rotate the brake rotor in forward motion. Push the brake caliper up into the holder space before adding the upper guide pin bolt. Tighten the bolt to a torque of 31 nm (23 ft. Lbs.). Put on the tire and wheel assembly while lowering the vehicle and utilize the brake pedal without power to activate it halfway then release slowly. Release the brake pedal for 15 seconds and do this test until the brake pedal feels solid. This action positions both caliper pistons and brake pads correctly. End the process by filling the brake reservoir until it reaches the correct level and running the system to smooth out the brake pads and rotors.

    Q:
How to replace the rear brake pads on Chevrolet Corvette? Posted by Customer
    A:
Begin the rear Brake Pad replacement by checking the fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir; proceed only if the fluid falls between the maximum and minimum points. The brake fluid level should stay between maximum and minimum points so no fluid needs replacement. First raise the vehicle before supporting it with stands and then take off the tire while removing the wheel assembly. The wheel lug nut needs hand tightening to set the rotor into position with the hub. A threaded brake caliper clamp should be placed across the caliper body before tightening the clamp against an inboard Brake Pad or a wooden block to push the caliper piston toward the rotor until it moves past. Secure the brake caliper with heavy mechanic's wire through the guide pins while you detach the bolts and after you release the c-clamp to protect your hydraulic flexible brake hose from damage. After removing the caliper from the bracket and brake pads from the caliper bracket, inspect the brake pads retainers. Look for any damage on the caliper slide boots and consider replacement if you find issues. Use a large c-clamp to compress the caliper piston by placing the clamp ends on the caliper body and inserting an old Brake Pad or wood block at the caliper's rear which provides full piston compression while tightening. Place back the c-clamp after removing the previous block or pad while positioning the Brake Pad wear sensor for trailing motion during rotor forward rotation. Attach the Brake Caliper Bracket followed by installing guide pin bolts and torque them to 31 nm (23 ft. Lbs.). After reinstalling the tire and wheel assembly lower the vehicle while the engine stays off and apply pressure to the Brake Pedal reaching two-thirds of its travel point before easing the pedal back to release. Apply the Brake Pedal gradually three times for 15 seconds each time to achieve a proper pad seating for the caliper pistons. The procedure ends with filling the brake master cylinder reservoir to the right fluid mark while performing pad and rotor burnishing.
