    Q:
How to prevent Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) damage to the Engine Control Module during service on Chevrolet K3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Don't touch the connector pins or the soldered parts of your vehicle's vcm before you repair it or replace it, to avoid damaging it. If you have to replace the vcm, transfer the Knock Sensor (KS) module to the new one, have it programmed and perform the passlock reprogramming and ckp system variation learn to avoid dtc p1336. A fault in the solenoid, relay coil or harness won't damage the odm and once the issue is fixed, the odm will work correctly. Start with the negative Battery Cable and then remove the clip, the vcm from its bracket and its connectors. Remove the screws securing the Knock Sensor access cover to get it off and put the module into a place where it won't be damaged. Pinch the retaining clip and lift upward to take out the Knock Sensor module. Upon installation, be sure that either the vcm or service number is the official version. Push the notches of the Knock Sensor module into the socket, putting pressure only on its ends until it clicks. After that, place and install the module and access cover, tightening the screws to have a torque of 4.8 n.m (42 lb in). Afterward, link the vcm harness connectors, slide in the vcm, clip the retainer and attach the negative Battery Cable again.

    Q:
How to set up for programming the Engine Control Module on GMC C3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Starting the vcm electrically erasable programmable read only memory (EEPROM) programming process, confirm the battery is completely charged, the ignition is on and the scan tool connects properly to the data link connector (DLC). Carry out the instructions in your techline terminal as suggested by the users guide for vcm programming. Should programming the vcm not work, check that all vcm connections are intact and make sure all itcs components have the current software; if the problem continues, it is likely it needs replacement. After that, carry out the passlock reprogramming procedure and the ckp system variation learn procedure. To finish the check, carry out the powertrain on-board diagnostic (OBD) system check.

    Q:
What is the function of the Engine Control Module in programming control modules on GMC Savana 3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
The service programming system (SPS) allows technicians to upload control module programming through the data link connector (DLC) which shares the serial data circuit with the scan tool for displaying data alongside dtc retrieval. A control module consists of electrically erasable programmable read only memory (EEPROM) that keeps learned data like vehicle identification number (VIN) and software/calibration numbers and security information but also contains flash read only memory with increased storage which programs completely before writing new data. The programming techniques consist of remote programming using (Tech 2) and passing through programming with (Tech 2) alongside off-board remote programming through (OBPA) and off-board pass through programming through (OBPA). Programming of the control module should occur exclusively for two reasons: replacement instruction receipt or when a new software/calibration package becomes available. The vehicle system voltage must be between 12 and 16 volts while charging system malfunctions are absent and battery chargers need to be disconnected. Check that all battery-draining systems are disabled and ensure the Ignition Switch stands in its correct position before verifying the secure connection of the rs-232 cable and dlc connection and voltage supply circuits and obpa. Disturbing the tool harnesses during programming procedures will lead to failures or damage. Modifications to the powertrain from programming will cause changes that need the control module to understand different values such as fuel trim correction and idle air control (IAC) learned position and automatic transmission shift adapts. The replacement of control modules requires the technician to perform several additional service procedures including crankshaft variation learn and engine oil life reset along with idle learn and inspection/maintenance complete system set and vehicle theft deterrent password learn and throttle position (TP) sensor learn.
