    Q:
Should the seat belt system be inspected and repaired after a collision to ensure safety on Chevrolet Trailblazer? Posted by Customer
    A:
It becomes necessary to check and fix seat belt systems following car collisions in order to maintain safety. Automated safety devices must activate in a severe collision so manufacturers need to replace all seat belt systems that were in use during such incidents. All seat belt systems must be replaced whether they belong to adults or protect children in their carriers or booster seats including the LATCH system and top tether anchorages. Replacement of every seat belt component applies to all standard safety restraints for adults as well as built-in child restraint slots and LATCH system connectors which require undamaged maintenance. Judgment to replace the seat belt system should be implemented only when "REPLACE" or "CAUTION" labels appear or when a yellow tag exists. However, do not perform any replacement when only the child seat caution label is present. You must replace the seat belt system whenever there exists uncertainty about its condition and this includes the components which mount all infant carriers and child restraints and booster seats. Replacement of a seat belt system should include the buckle as well as the guide and retractor assembly made up of the latch and webbing material after a collision occurs in a vehicle. Unless seat belt parts have signs of damage or wear in minor accidents without automatic restraint deployment, replacement might not be required.
