    Q:
How to replace the brake shoes on Chevrolet Cavalier? Posted by Customer
    A:
The brake shoes replacement process starts by supporting the vehicle under elevation and moving the tire and wheel assembly along with noting the Brake Drum's position to the axle flange for rotation maintenance during reassembly. First release the parking brake then back off the parking brake adjustment cable before removing the Brake Drum while tapping it gently on the outer drum edge without applying force. The j 8049 (Brake Spring Remover and Installer) or j 29840 (Brake Spring Remover and Installer) are tools for removing return springs from the system. After removing return springs operators should remove hold-down springs and pins. The actuator link releases when lifting the actuator lever before taking out all parts including the actuator lever along with its lever return spring and actuator lever sleeve. First remove the parking brake strut and strut spring before disconnecting the Parking Brake Cable to finish the removal process by taking out the shoe and lining assemblies and adjusting screw assembly. Michael will remove the retaining ring and pin and parking brake lever from the secondary shoe and should replace worn-out components during this process. High-temperature silicone brake lubricant should be applied to the areas where brake shoes touch the backing plate before checking for normal rotation in the adjusting screw threads. The installation process begins with inserting the parking brake lever into the secondary shoe with a pin and retaining ring after which the adjusting screw assembly and spring must be installed followed by the Parking Brake Cable attachment. Mount the shoe and lining components correctly while positioning the parking brake strut alongside the spring. The order of installation includes the actuator lever sleeve followed by the actuator lever and lever return spring after which you must safely fasten the hold-down pins. Fasten the actuator link when the lever remains elevated before applying the j 8057 (Brake Spring Pliers) to install shoe return springs. Drum brake adjustment leads to Brake Drum placement according to previous markings followed by parking brake system adjustment before reinstalling the tire and wheel and finally discarding safety stands and lowering the vehicle.
