The first step of Fuel Tank module replacement demands safety precautions that start with securing fuel line fittings with shop cloth before utilizing a suitable fuel collection container. Ensure your cleanup of all fuel pipe connections includes cleaning the hose terminals to stop any source of contamination. Begin the work by getting a new Fuel Tank module seal. Begin the replacement process by detaching the Fuel Tank followed by the removal of the fuel pump fuel feed line quick connect fitting along with the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister vent front pipe quick connect fitting present on the Fuel Tank module. First move the fuel lines to an alternative position then disconnect the electrical connectors that come from the Fuel Tank pressure sensor and Fuel Tank module. The Fuel Tank module lock ring installation requires a j 45722 tool which should be fitted without striking tools to hold the Fuel Tank steady while preventing rotation. The lock ring should be rotated counterclockwise to unlock before it can be unbolted. Lift the module with caution to view the fuel level sensor float arm as you tilt its position to avoid object interference while removing it from the tank opening. Drain the fuel from the module reservoir bucket into a proper container before taking out the Fuel Tank module seal. The procedure requires separation of the fuel level sensor. Check for any damage on the lock ring. Replace this component if its warpage reaches or surpasses 0.41 mm which equals 0.016 in. Install the fuel level sensor if needed before putting on a fresh Fuel Tank module seal to the Fuel Tank. Position the module at an angle to clear float arm obstruction while you insert it into the tank structure. Finally, install and positiontable the locking ring. Connect the fuel sender wiring harness electrical connectors to their respective modules following a clockwise lock of the ring using j 45722. Install the Fuel Tank module by reattaching the evap canister vent along with the front pipe as well as the fuel pump feed line quick connect fittings.

Before continuing with the procedure remove the Fuel Level Sensor if needed. Check the lock ring for damage; discard it if the warpage reaches more than 0.41 mm (0.016 in). During installation you should first put the Fuel Level Sensor and a fresh Fuel Tank module seal onto the Fuel Tank. The module must be tilted to expose the tank aperture before installation while adding the Fuel Tank module lock ring. J 45722 should be used to turn the ring clockwise before connecting the electrical connectors of the fuel sender wiring harness. Install both the fuel pump feed line and evap canister vent front pipe by connecting quick connect fittings and to the Fuel Tank module. Finally, reinstall the Fuel Tank.

The service process requires using a fuel sender lock ring wrench (J 45722) for tooling. Start with Fuel Tank removal and disconnect the fuel pump feed line quick connect fitting to the Fuel Tank module along with the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister front pipe quick connect fitting from the Fuel Tank. First redirect the tubed fittings and next unplug the electrical wiring connections for both the Fuel Tank pressure sensor and the Fuel Tank module. The j 45722 fuel sender lock ring wrench should be used to loosen the Fuel Tank module lock ring while avoiding any damage to the ring. Drive the lock ring off and lift the module with caution regarding the fuel level sensor float arm. You should tilt the module towards its side to unlock the tank opening before taking out both the Fuel Tank and the Fuel Tank module seal into an approved waste container. The sensor-fuel level measurement process should follow without interference unless the ring shows significant warpage exceeding 0.41 mm (0.016 in). In this case the replacement of the lock ring becomes necessary. To establish the setup put a fresh Fuel Tank module seal onto the Fuel Tank and then position the module at the right point before fastening the lock ring by means of the fuel sender lock ring wrench (J 45722). The next step includes attaching electrical connectors to the fuel sender wiring harness while placing both fuel pump fuel feed line and evap canister vent front pipe fittings correctly before you install the Fuel Tank module.
