Expansion Valve

The first step to replace the thermal expansion valve (TXV) requires refrigerant recovery using a Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A). The procedure starts by taking off the TXV mounting stud nut followed by separating the evaporator tube from the TXV and detaching the compressor suction hose. Before removing the TXV all technicians must discard seal washers and uninstall the bolts which hold the TXV in place. Position the TXV after installing new evaporator core fitting seal washers and secure it with the bolts at 7 N.m (62 lb in). The installation process requires new sealing washers on both the evaporator tube and the compressor suction hose fasteners before reattaching these components to the TXV. Secure the TXV nut by torquing it to 20 N.m (15 lb ft). The installation process ends in evacuation of the system followed by refrigerant recharging and use of Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A) to perform fitting leak tests.
