Idle Speed Control

The initial procedure to replace the Idle Control Valve requires removal of the electrical connector from the Idle Control Valve along with detachment of the Idle Control Valve attaching screws from the valve. The next step involves extracting the Idle Control Valve from the Throttle Body while also taking away its o-ring. Installation starts by installing an Idle Control Valve o-ring before placing the Idle Control Valve into the Throttle Body and following fastener notice in service precautions. The Idle Control Valve attaching screws must be secured to the Idle Control Valve with a torque of 3 n.m (27 lb in). The Idle Control Valve electrical connector must be reattached to its housing. The powertrain control module (PCM) controls a reset of the Idle Control Valve after the Ignition Switch has both been turned on and off. When the Idle Control Valve learn is necessary, first enable the Ignition Switch on and then off; afterward begin the engine and let it idle for 15 seconds before switching the ignition to the lock/off position, allowing 15 more seconds of standstill before restarting the engine for an idle check.

Starting the Idle Control Valve replacement requires disconnecting the electrical connector from the Idle Control Valve then unscrewing the Idle Control Valve attaching screws before moving the Idle Control Valve from the Throttle Body and taking off the o-ring. The Idle Control Valve installation requires checking the cone (pintle) extension to less than 28 mm (1-1/8 in). If needed, manually compress the pintle for the proper fit. You should put on a fresh o-ring to the Idle Control Valve before installing it in the Throttle Body while attaching it with the Idle Control Valve screws. Tighten them to 3 n.m (27 lb in). Follow the electrical connector installation onto the Idle Control Valve before proceeding with the Idle Control Valve learn process. Begin by starting and idling the engine for 15 seconds followed by 15 seconds of Ignition Switch in the lock/off position before restarting the engine to verify proper idle functions.

Before starting the Idle Control Valve replacement process sever the power connector from the Idle Control Valve and unscrew the Idle Control Valve attaching screws on the Idle Control Valve. Start by removing the Idle Control Valve from the Throttle Body then extract the Idle Control Valve o-ring. Begin your installation by inserting a new Idle Control Valve o-ring followed by placing the Idle Control Valve inside the Throttle Body. Secure the Idle Control Valve attaching screws to 3.0 n.m (27 lb in) torque. Finally connect the electrical connector to the Idle Control Valve. A turn of the ignition key leads the powertrain control module to reset the Idle Control Valve throughout an off-on cycle. Follow the Idle Control Valve learning process starting with ignition on and off before performing a 15-second engine start and idle period followed by a 15-second delay at ignition lock/off then restart the system to verify correct idle conditions.
