Steering Wheel

Begin by aligning the front wheels directly to the front before starting replacement work. Drive the pin of the Steering Column anti-rotation (J 42640) through the access hole in the lower Steering Column trim cover to lock the Steering Column. Take out the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module. Create reference points on the Steering Wheel to show its connection to the Steering Shaft. Twist the Steering Wheel nut two full turns before gently pulling the Steering Wheel from the Steering Column. Draw the electrical connectors (1,3) through the space without harm before you extract the Steering Wheel nut to remove the Steering Wheel. When installing the front wheels must point straight ahead before attaching them. The new Steering Wheel should be set by the Steering Shaft with the arrow pointing at 12 o'clock and proper teeth alignment must be maintained. When installing the original Steering Wheel it should match the reference points noted during uninstallation while avoiding any pinching of electrical connectors (1,3). Insert the new Steering Wheel nut into position then torque it to 35 n.m (26 lb ft). Conclude by mounting the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module and taking out the anti-rotation pin (J 42640).

Beginning the Steering Wheel replacement requires setting the front wheels at zero degree position then disabling the supplemental inflatable restraint system. Drivers can lock the Steering Column using the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) by passing it through the lower Steering Column trim cover access hole. Mark the Steering Wheel's relationship to the Steering Shaft by making an alignment point after removing the inflator module. Sparely loosen the Steering Wheel nut two times before sitting the Steering Wheel off the Steering Column carefully. Unbolt the Steering Wheel nut then detach the Steering Wheel from the Steering Column. You should check for straight-wheel position before starting the installation process. Position the replacement Steering Wheel near the Steering Shaft at 12 o'clock with the arrow in place to achieve correct tooth alignment between the wheel and shaft. Reapply your original Steering Wheel by matching it up with the removal marks. Drive the Steering Wheel toward the Steering Shaft before tightening the Steering Wheel nut to 35 nm (26 ft. Lbs.). Unlock the Steering Column by removing the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) at the lower trim cover access hole before you instaill the inflator module to enable the sir system.

The first step to replacing a Steering Wheel includes setting front wheels in direct alignment while locking the Steering Column with anti-rotation pin (J 42640) through the lower Steering Column trim cover access. Make alignment marks between the Steering Wheel and Steering Shaft after removing the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module. When loosening the Steering Wheel nut for two complete turns use your fingers to gently pull the wheel from the Steering Column before removing the nut. Guide the electrical connectors (1,3) through the Steering Wheel while removing it in a damage-free manner. Before Steering Wheel installation maintain your front wheels in their direct center position. Position the new Steering Wheel adjacent to the Steering Shaft while orienting the arrow at 12 o'clock then check for correct meshing of wheel teeth with Steering Shaft teeth. When reusing the original Steering Wheel position it properly according to the removal marks while verifying that electrical connectors (1,3) remain unpinched. Screw in the Steering Wheel nut then torque it to 35 nm (26 lb ft). As the final step install the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module while removing the anti-rotation pin (J 42640).

Align it with the marks made during removal and ensure the electrical connectors (1, 3) are not pinched.

Remove the inflator module and make an alignment mark to note the relationship of the steering wheel to the steering shaft.
