Begin Steering Wheel replacement by aligning front wheels straight-ahead and turning off supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Use the
Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) by inserting it through the lower Steering Column trim cover access hole to lock the Steering Column. First mark the alignment between the Steering Wheel and
Steering Shaft by removing the inflator module. The Steering Wheel nut receives two rotations of loosening before gently removing the wheel from the Steering Column. Begin by dislodging the Steering Wheel nut and pulling the wheel off from the Steering Column. Follow up front wheel positioning at 0 degrees to perform the installation procedure. Put the new Steering Wheel next to the Steering Shaft so that the arrow faces the 12 o'clock position while also verifying correct tooth mesh between wheels and shaft. For original Steering Wheel refit line up the original marks before pressing it onto the Steering Shaft. Secure the Steering Wheel nut onto the Steering Shaft and tighten it to a torque of 35 n.m (26 lb ft). Unfasten the pin which is known as the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) from the lower trim access hole to unlock the Steering Column. Reinstall the inflator module and activate the sir system operations.
