Starting the replacement process requires a straight-ahead position for front wheels followed by locking the
Steering Column using anti-rotation pin (J 42640) through the access hole in lower Steering Column trim cover. Begin by removing the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module followed by making alignment marks that will show how the Steering Wheel relates to the
Steering Shaft. Twist the Steering Wheel nut twice before gently tugging on the wheel to free it from the column so you may remove the nut. Avoid harming the electrical connectors (1, 3) while moving them through the Steering Wheel. The installation process should take place when front wheels maintain a straight-ahead orientation. When installing a new Steering Wheel place it next to the Steering Shaft so the arrow points to the 12 o'clock position and check that Steering Wheel teeth line up properly with the Steering Shaft. To reinstall the original Steering Wheel position it correctly using the reference marks then check that the electrical connectors (1, 3) stay free from binding. Screw and torque the Steering Wheel nut to 35 nm (26 lb ft). To finish the installation process place the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module into position and uninstall the anti-rotation pin (J 42640).
