  • Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser in a system on 2000 Buick LeSabre?
A: Instead of the condenser, first, using the a/c refrigerant recovery, recycling, and recharging (ACR4) system (J 39500-B) in recovering the refrigerant from the a/c system. Next, remove the upper tie bar support brace bolts at upper tie bar, loosen the support brace bolts at headlamp and bumper fascia mounting panel, and move it out of the way. Remove the upper radiator seal and mounting brackets of the upper radiator then remove compressor hose and evaporator hose from the condenser. Take off the fasteners from the left and right of the headlamp and bumper fascia mounting panel to lift the panel forward to access the condenser mounting bolts and the two condenser to radiator mounting. Take special care to remove the condenser from the radiator by lifting it up from its lower mounting ways, disconnect and remove coolant sensor, (RPO UB7 only), and the two A/C Condenser seals. Lift the condenser and pull it out of the vehicle. When installing, install the new condenser with the correct quantity of refrigerant oil into the vehicle and install and attach the low coolant sensor and wiring harness. Mount the condenser into the lower radiator mounting tabs at the same time using the special length bolt for the condenser to radiator end tank connection. Mount the condenser mounting bolts and tighten them to 6 n.m (53 lb in). Install the new A/C Condenser seals, move the head lamp and the bumper facia panel mounting panel in place, and install the fasteners tightly to 9 n.m (7 lb ft). Check the availability of seal washers for damage before reassembling the a/c lines and hoses and replacing any damaged areas with seal washers. Mount the evaporator hose and nut to the condenser and tighten the nut to 20 n.m (15 lb ft) then the compressor hose and nut to 20 n.m (15 lb ft). Attach the upper radiator mounting brackets and bolts and tighten them down to 9 n.m (7 lb ft) and on the upper radiator seal and the front fascia to tie bar support brackets and bolts tighten to 9 n.m (7 lb ft). Lastly, install the front headlamps, recharge the a/c system, and perform leak checks with electronic halogen leak detector (J 39400-A).
