2001 Buick LeSabre A/C Condenser Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser in the HVAC system on 2001 Buick LeSabre?
A: In order to replace the condenser within the hvac system, locate the source of leaks by using the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A). Start by recovering the refrigerator, then remove the upper tie bar support brace bolts at the upper tie bar, and at the support brace bolts at the headlamp and bumper fascia mounting panel, move the braces out of the way. Next, proceed with the removal of the upper radiator seal and the upper radiator mounting brackets, then proceed to disconnect the hose from the compressor and the loop from the condenser. Remove the fasteners on the side of the headlamp and the bumper fascia mounting panel to be able to lift the panel forward and have access to the condenser mounting bolts. It is very important to know that, the bolt of keeping the condenser in its connection to the radiator end tank is a special length and should be to be used only if it is re-installed again to prevent the damage of the radiator end tank. Remove both the two condenser to radiator mounting bolts; remove the two lower mounting tabs and remove the two A/C Condenser seals. Lift the condenser and take it out of the vehicle. For installation, fill the condenser with appropriate refrigerant oil, mount it into the vehicle, then insert it into the lower radiators mounting tabs by using the special length bolts for reinstallation. Torque the condenser mounting bolts to 6 n.m (53 lb in) , install the new A/C Condenser seals, replace the headlamp and bumper fascia mounting panel, fasten with bolts to 9 n.m (7 lb ft). Check seal washers for any malfunction before reinstalling the a/c lines and hoses and replace damaged seals based on what the inspection entails. Mount the evaporator hose and nut with 20 n.m (15 lb.ft) and later the compressor hose and nut with another 20n.m (15 lb.ft). Raise the upper radiator mounting brackets and their bolt up to 9 n.m (7 lb ft), followed by the upper radiator seal, front fascia to tie bar support brackets, and bolts, again to 9 n.m (7 lb ft). Finally, reinstallate front headlamps, charge the a/c system, and leak test with the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A).
