2002 Buick LeSabre Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser on 2002 Buick LeSabre?
A: Start by recovering the refrigerant before replacing the condenser unit. Start by removing upper tie bar support brace bolts then loosen support brace bolts at the headlamp and bumper fascia mounting panel before moving them out of reach. Begin by taking off the upper radiator seal along with both upper radiator mounting brackets. Drain the condenser by first separating the compressor hose then the evaporator hose before you can start removing the front headlamps. Access the mounting bolts for the condenser by lifting the headlamp and bumper fascia panel forward after removing all fasteners along its left and right sides. To do this task safely separate the condenser from the radiator by lifting it out of the lower mounting tabs after disconnecting the coolant sensor (RPO UB7 only). Remove two A/C Condenser seals then lift the condenser completely out from the vehicle. Installation requires you to add the correct amount of refrigerant oil to the new condenser then position it within the vehicle followed by wiring and connecting the low coolant sensor and harness. The installation requires placement of the condenser between radiator lower mounting tabs and use of the special bolt for retaining the condenser to end tank. Secure the condenser mounting bolts with a torque of 6 n.m (53 lb in). After positioning the headlamp and bumper fascia mounting panel correctly, install fasteners that need 9 n.m (7 lb ft) torque tightening. Position new washers beneath the seats then attach the evaporator hose to the condenser with the nut at a torque setting of 20 n.m (15 lb ft). Attach the condenser's compressor hose along with its nut while tightening force reaches 20 n.m (15 lb ft). Screw the upper radiator mounting brackets into place while tightening the bolts to 9 n.m (7 lb ft). Then secure the upper radiator seal. Fasten the front fascia to tie bar support brackets through secure bolts before tightening them to 9 n.m (7 lb ft). The last step involves reinstalling the front headlamps. Evaluate the a/c system for leaks by connecting the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) before conducting the system recharge.
