2000 Buick Regal Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake pads on 2000 Buick Regal?
A: Movement should stop with a solid brake pedal before servicing the brakes because accidental injury can occur. Start by taking out one-third of the brake fluid from the master cylinder after properly positioning the vehicle. Draw the tire alignment on the axle before unmounting the wheel and rotor. Secure the rotor with two wheel nuts when it comes off. Place a c-clamp on the caliper piston to create space and remove its top bolt to move the caliper down with pads visible at its base. Take brake pads 9-10 out of the caliper bracket and clip the two pad retention devices. Look for damage on caliper bracket boots and replace them if necessary while checking piston boots for the same signs of wear. Test the caliper bolts for corrosion and wear. Substitute any parts that are damaged including bushing sets. Apply denatured alcohol to the outside surface of the caliper boot before putting new brake pads in place. Place the piston base into the caliper hole with a c-clamp and protect piston and boot parts with metal or wood. Push up the lower part of the caliper boot near the piston to free air that may be stuck there and keep the boot flat against the piston face. Use the two retainers to mount them on the caliper bracket placing the wear sensor on the outside shoe always visible at the trailing edge when the wheel moves forward. Attach pads 9 and 10 to the caliper bracket without harming the pin sleeve as you turn the caliper. Move the caliper upward over the pads and apply silicone grease to the upper boot and bolt before tightening the bolt to 43 nm (32 ft. Lbs.). Put on the wheels and tires by fitting them to the hub and let them align with the earlier marks after you taking out the wheel nuts from the rotor. Set the vehicle to ground level then refill the master cylinder to its correct fluid amount with fresh brake fluid. Press the brake pedal three times to push the pads toward the rotor and follow by smoothing the pad and rotor surface.
