- Q: How to replace the rear brake calipers on 2000 Buick Regal?A: Before replacing the rear brake caliper start by draining a third of the brake fluid from the master cylinder and carefully lift and secure the vehicle. Before installation of the new caliper place two wheel nuts to secure the rotor. Then remove the tires and wheel. Place a large c-clamp over the brake caliper against the outboard Brake Pad's back until the caliper piston goes deep enough to extract the caliper from the rotor. Plug all exposed edges of the caliper housing along with the pipe to stop brake fluid loss and contamination before removing caliper bolts 1 and 3. Hanging calipers off flexible hoses causes damage to the components. Extract the caliper housing from its position between rotor and caliper bracket . The technician must check piston boots for damage signs and conduct a replacement when any deterioration or tears are observed. You should evaluate the caliper bracket boots for similar damage and swap them out as needed. Check the caliper bolts for any corrosion or damage and replace the bushings and bolts and any other components if corrosion is detected. Before installation insert the caliper over the rotor while also over the caliper bracket with bushings positioned correctly. A systematic application of silicone grease to caliper bolts (1 and 3) should be performed without contacting threads while two rubber boots (13 and 4) in the caliper bracket need silicone grease application also. Install caliper bolts (1 and 3) by pushing boot shoulders through screwdriver action to settle into caliper bolt grooves before tightening bolts to 44 nm (32 ft. Lbs.) torque., replacing the copper gaskets. Tighten the brake hose bolt until it reaches 44 nm (32 ft. Lbs.) torque.you must start by undoing the wheel nuts that keep the hub and bearing connected to the rotor. Reattach the tires along with the wheels while ensuring the wheel marks match those on the hub and bearing. Then lower the vehicle. Because of everything being done restore the master cylinder to its optimal fluid level with fresh brake fluid. Bleed the entire brake system before applying 778 nm (175 lbs.) torque to the brake pedal three times for pad-to-rota apply three successive heavy pushes on the brake pedal to let the pads take position on the rotor before checking for any fluid leaks in the hydraulic brake system.
