2001 Buick Regal Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front brake calipers on 2001 Buick Regal?
A: Before removing the front brake caliper you need to check the brake fluid level in the reservoir. Drain the fluid if it stands above the middle line between the two allowed measurement marks. Support the vehicle safely while lifting it and detach the front tire together with its wheel assembly. Install a large c-clamp above the brake caliper while hand tightening two wheel lug nuts to prevent the rotor from detaching from the hub. Once done tighten the c-clamp until the caliper piston moves into position for easy removal of the brake caliper from the rotor. Take out the brake hose-to-caliper bolt along with both copper gaskets and set them aside. Apply a cap onto the brake hose ending to stop fluid leakage while making sure not to crush the hose with tools. Take the caliper bolts out and move the caliper away from the rotor when it is still attached to its bracket. Check the caliper boot space in the bracket for damage like cuts and tears. Replace the boots when problems are found and replace all caliper bolts if their condition is poor or imperfect. Wipe the brake caliper pin bolts and retainers with denatured alcohol before applying non-lubricated filtered air. Then spread high temperature silicone brake lubricant on the bolt and retainer pins while keeping the pad hardware free of lubricant. Thread the caliper over the rotor wheel and bracket while making sure bushings fill their locations before applying silicone grease to caliper bolts except their threaded parts. Insert the caliper bolts and make sure the boots of bolt pass through the grooves of pin bolts without damaging or distorting them before tightening them to 95 nm (70 ft. Lbs.). Install new copper brake hose gaskets onto the brake hose bolt and gaskets before fitting them to the brake hose. Then tighten the brake hose-to-caliper bolt to 54 nm (40 ft. Lbs.). Lower your car after installing the front tire and wheel then remove the two lug nuts connecting the rotor to the hub. Now fill your master cylinder with brake fluid until it reaches the correct level while examining hydraulic brake system leaks.
