2000 Buick Regal Heater Core Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Heater Core on 2000 Buick Regal?
A: Start the Heater Core replacement by removing the air cleaner and duct assembly (only for 3.1L) as well as the fuel injector sight shield (only for 3.8L). The first step is to empty coolant from the system and break both Heater Core hose connections. The procedure requires removal of both lower floor console as well as lh and rh instrument panel insulators when they are present. The outlet cover requires positioning downward in the rear direction so it can disconnect from the rear area floor duct assembly before you remove both screws and the outlet cover. Secure the Heater Core at its opening by removing screws from the cover and discarding three seals (1,2,3) from both cover and core components. First detach the Heater Core line clamp screw together with its retaining clamp before loosening the Heater Core pipe retainer clamp screw. The hvac lower case will yield the Heater Core while operators must discard the lower seal along with the center seal, upper seal and side seals. Start Heater Core installation by placing the side seals and upper and center and lower seals into the hvac case and inserting the Heater Core. Apply 1.5 n.m (13 lb in) torque to the Heater Core line clamp screw followed by installing the mounting clip with a screw which needs 1.5 n.m (13 lb in) torque. Insert the Heater Core outer seal onto the Heater Core unit before installing new seals (1,2,3) to the Heater Core cover. Place the Heater Core cover in position first before securing its screws at 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). Next, assemble the Heater Core outlet cover with screws while torquing to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). Reinstallation of both Heater Core outlet cover screws to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in) is required followed by reinstalling the lower floor console and lh and rh instrument panel insulators and reconnecting both heater hoses at the Heater Core then filling coolant before reinstalling the air cleaner and duct assembly (3.1L only) and fuel injector sight shield (3.8L only).
