2000 Buick Regal Rod Bearing Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the connecting rod bearing on 2000 Buick Regal?
A: To replace the connecting Rod Bearing, the Oil Pan should first be removed. Place the connecting rod to be maintained at bottom dead center (BDC) after rotating the Crankshaft, then remove the bolts on the connecting rod cap. Remove the connecting rod cap and the lower connecting Rod Bearing, make sure to leave the bearings with the original connecting rod and the cap. The lower connecting Rod Bearing should be removed from the connecting rod cap and then the connecting rod assembly guide (J41507) should be attached to the connecting rod. With the j41507, raise the connecting rod and piston for access to the upper connecting Rod Bearing, which should then be removed. Clean the oil off from the bearings and inspect them, measuring the bearing clearance if necessary. When installing, dip the connecting rod cap bolts into clean engine oil, and apply clean engine oil on the bearing surface. Install the upper connecting rod and install the bearing. Pull down with the help of the j41507 the piston, connecting rod and the upper connecting Rod Bearing and then remove the j41507. Mount the lowering rods bearing to the connecting rod cap and then the connecting rod cap. Replace the connecting rod cap bolts and bolt them to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs) with electronic torque angle meter (J36660-A), and rotate the bolts an additional 50 degrees. Check for binding by prying the connecting rodto and fro and in the event of this loosening, retighten the connecting rod cap bolts. The next step is to measure the connecting rod side clearance, and then put in the Oil Pan and check for correct oil pressure and leaks.
