2000 Cadillac Catera A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Accumulator on 2000 Cadillac Catera?
A: Recovery of the refrigerant should be your first step when replacing the A/C Accumulator. Uninstall the front grille and extract the washer fill tube vertically from the windshield Washer Reservoir. Use the front grille opening to reach the A/C Accumulator connection bolt before bolt removal. Releasing the self-locking tabs on each outer cover enables the removal of these and two screws on the central cover. By unscrewing the condenser-to-radiator and tilting the condenser to the lh vehicle side remove additional space to bolt the A/C Accumulator bracket without damaging condenser elements or refrigerant tubes. You can access the A/C Accumulator bracket bolt by removing the two knock-outs in the Fan Shroud from the lh side when required. Begin the procedure by taking out both A/C Accumulator bracket bolts followed by removing the A/C Accumulator unit. Installation starts with placing the A/C Accumulator on the condenser unit according to the fastener notice in service precautions guidelines. Fasten the A/C Accumulator bracket bolts with 4 n.m (35 lb in) torque. Insert the condenser in its final position so all lower mounting pins contact the respective lower rubber grommets and thread in the lh and rh condenser-to-radiator screws until they become fully seated. Fasten the two screws on the center cover before tightening them for full seating after which secure the self-locking tabs on both outer covers. Fasten the A/C Accumulator connection bolt using new o-rings which received mineral oil with 525 viscosity and achieve a torque setting of 15 n.m (11 lb in). The worker installs the windshield Washer Reservoir fill tube and removes all the washer solvent from the working area before installing the front grille. Conduct a leak test on the damage components after evacuation and system recharging and management of installation fittings through j 39400-a.
