2001 Cadillac Catera Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Accumulator in an A/C system on 2001 Cadillac Catera?
A: The first step to replace the A/C Accumulator requires recovering the refrigerant from the a/c system. Detach the windshield Washer Reservoir by pulling the Washer Reservoir fill tube at the front above until it separates from its place. Begin by disassembling the A/C Accumulator block fitting bolt followed by the removal of upper radiator covers through releasing self-locking tabs which release both outer covers and unscrewing the two screws from the center cover. The technician should remove condenser-to-radiator screws from both sides before using a gentle tilt towards the lh while monitoring the refrigerant tubes and condenser for damage. You can access the A/C Accumulator bracket bolt by taking out the two knock-outs which are situated on the lh side of the Fan Shroud. Take off the bolts attaching the A/C Accumulator bracket before removing the A/C Accumulator piece. To install the A/C Accumulator system firstly position it at the condenser and then place the A/C Accumulator bracket bolts followed by 4 n.m (35 lb in) torque tightening. Position the condenser with its lower mounting pins fully inserted into the rubber grommets before tightening each condenser-to-radiator screw to 8 n.m (71 lb in). You should attach the upper radiator covers through downward screw installation on the center cover with exterior cover self-locking tabs. Insert the A/C Accumulator block fitting bolt with new o-rings coated in mineral oil 525 but also tighten it to 15 n.m (11 lb in). After placing the Washer Reservoir fill tube inside the windshield Washer Reservoir, the mechanic cleans all existing washer solvent from the work area and finally installs the front grille. The last step includes evacuating and recharging the a/c system followed by conducting a leak test on fittings through usage of the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A).
