2001 Cadillac Catera Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Heater Core on 2001 Cadillac Catera?
A: The cooling system needs draining as the first step before Heater Core replacement. Disconnect the heater hoses from the Heater Core pipes by operating the air inlet screen on the passenger side followed by accessing the pollen filter area then depressing the locking collar's tabs before unlocking the sleeve and removing the disconnects with disposal of any present green assembly markers. First, remove the ip carrier before moving on to take off the sir mounting bracket bolts along with the sir mounting bracket. Then, detach the ip support bracket bolts before removing the ip support bracket. Unscrew the Blower Motor housing screws to eventually extract the motor with the housing from the compartment. Start by removing the Heater Core bracket screw from the pipe and then unfasten both the Heater Core bracket and Heater Core inlet and outlet retaining bracket followed by their respective pipes. Safeguard the interior trim and carpeting from coolant leaks by plugging Heater Core ports before you remove the Heater Core along with its rubber seal through the retaining screw without damaging the fins. Place the rubber seal inside the Heater Core cavity before installing the Heater Core without damaging its fins then fasten the retaining screw at 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). New o-rings require light coolant lubrication before screwing the Heater Core inlet and outlet pipes to a torque of 5 n.m (44 lb in). Follow installation by first tightening the Heater Core pipe bracket screw to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in) before screwing the Blower Motor housing secure with motor along with screws that require 4 n.m (35 lb in) torque. Begin by tightening the ip support bracket bolts to 22 n.m (16 lb ft) and proceed to install the sir mounting bracket bolts at 16 n.m (12 lb ft) and complete with installing the ip carrier. The Heater Core pipe connections can be joined by attaching the heater hoses while discarding any present green assembly marker unless provided and ensuring the quick connect fittings match the pipe openings then squeezing the locking tabs before sliding the retaining sleeve fully into the locked position. Installation of the Heater Core is finished with the engagement of retaining sleeve. The procedure to open the cooling system for filling requires closing the pollen filter access door then lowering the passenger-side air inlet screen.
