- Q: How to replace the camshaft on 2000 Cadillac DeVille?A: To replace the Camshaft, first, remove the necessary Camshaft cover. Rotate the Crankshaft to tdc of the #1 cylinder's compression stroke, ensuring both Camshaft sprocket drive pins are at the top of their rotation. Place the Camshaft holding tool (J44212) on the camshafts and unbolt the Camshaft sprockets. Next, attach the secondary drive timing chain/sprocket holding fixture (J44213) onto the front rail of the cylinder head and take out the upper bolt access plug for the secondary Camshaft drive chain guide. Loosen the secondary cam shaft drive chain guide upper bolt only two turns before jerking the intake and exhaust cam shaft sprocket over the pins of the j44213. Loosen alternately the Camshaft bearing cap bolts until the valve spring pressure is completely released and then the Camshaft bearing caps and the j44212 off the camshafts along with the camshafts and Camshaft followers. Clean and check the camshafts and apply liberal amount of lubricant gm p/n 12345001 or equivalent to the roller pivot pocket and valve slot areas of the Camshaft followers. Mount the Camshaft followers at the valve tip and the shla (Stationary Hydraulic Lash Adjusters) in a proper alignment. Clean the Camshaft carriers with a clean cloth and lubricate the Camshaft carriers, Camshaft lobes and the Camshaft journals. Position the Camshaft into the Camshaft carriers having the sprokets drive pins near the top of its turning and neutral. Check the application of markings on the Camshaft bearing caps for the right installation and apply the lubricant to them and then install as indicated by identification marks. Install in sequence and alternately they with hand tighten until seated then once fully seated tighten to 5 nm (44 inch lbs.) and an additional 30 degrees using the torque angle/meter (J36660-A). Align the camshafts in place and install the j44212 over them in the proper relation to the sprocket drive pins. Slip the intake and exhaust Camshaft sprockets off the j44213 and onto the Camshaft pins, and then torque the secondary Camshaft drive chain guide upper bolt to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) and then replace the access plug to 4.5 nm (39 inch lbs.). Carefully take out the j44213 while holding the Camshaft sprockets against the camshafts, install the Camshaft sprocket bolts and tighten to 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.). Check the alignment of the Camshaft sprocket, remove the j44212, and finally Camshaft cover.
