- Q: How to replace the right camshaft on 2001 Cadillac DeVille?A: If you want this to become a new right Camshaft, remove the right be Camshaft cover and the bey cam shaft position sensor. Rotate the Crankshaft to tdc of the #1 cylinder's compression stroke using the Crankshaft rotation socket (J 39946), ensuring both Camshaft sprocket drive pins are at the top of their rotation. Assemble the Camshaft holding tool (J 44212) onto the camshafts and using an open wrench thread onto the hex that is cast into the camshafts to prevent rotation during the removal of the Camshaft sprocket bolts. Remove the Camshaft sprocket bolts, and attach the secondary drive timing chain/sprocket holding fixture (J 44213) to the front rail of the cylinder head. Remove the right secondary Camshaft drive chain shoe access plug, loosen the right secondary Camshaft drive chain shoe bolt (minus remove two full turns). Slide the intake and exhaust Camshaft sprockets onto the pins of the j 44213 then, loosen the Camshaft bearing cap bolts alternately till there is a release of pressure in the valve springs, by removing the Camshaft bearing caps and the j 44212 off the camshafts. Take out the camshafts and Camshaft followers, clean and examine the camshafts. Install the Camshaft followers with lubricant gm p/n 12345001 or equivalent applied to the roller pivot pocket and valve slot areas. Make sure they are appropriately seated on the valve tip and stationary hydraulic lash adjusters (SHLA). Clean the Camshaft carriers and oil them together with the Camshaft lobes and journal in the Camshaft carriers. Depose the Camshaft into the carriers so that the sprocket drive pins are near the top of their rotation and lobes are at a neutral fixing, the bearings of the Camshaft holder agreeing to indications on the Camshaft bearing caps. Grease the Camshaft bearing caps and make sure to fit them to the marks installed on the Camshaft bearing caps by tightening the bolts of Camshaft ball to 5 nm (44 inch lbs.), and tightening another 30 degrees using the torque angle/meter (J 36660-A). Align the camshafts and reinstall the j 44212 tight engagement between the sprockets. Slide the Camshaft sprockets off the j 44213 onto the camshafts, tighten the right sec cam in dary Camshaft drive chain shoe bolt to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.), and reinstall the, access plug to 4.5 nm (40 inch lbs.). Carefully unplug the j 44213, while restraining camshafts sprockets on the camshafts, then install and tighten the Camshaft sprocket bolts to 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.). Check the alignment of the Camshaft sprocket, take out the j 44212 and replace Camshaft Position Sensor and right Camshaft cover.
