2001 Cadillac DeVille Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the harmonic balancer on 2001 Cadillac DeVille?
A: The task to replace the Crankshaft balancer begins by taking away the Drive Belt followed by raising and sustaining the vehicle. Begin by removing the right front wheel together with the front fascia extension from the wheelhouse then proceed to eliminate the brace between the engine Oil Pan and transaxle case and finally the torque converter cover. Mount the flywheel holder (J 44214) after which you must remove the Crankshaft balancer bolt. The technical staff should use a suitable jack to support the engine assembly before unfastening the nut which holds the right Engine Mount to the right Engine Mount bracket. Lower the engine assembly to obtain space below the body rail for the Crankshaft balancer remover (J 41816) and then insert the remover pilot into the Crankshaft end for removing the Crankshaft balancer with the j 41816. After inspection of the Crankshaft balancer the component should be placed at the Crankshaft's nose. Apply engine oil to the threads of the Crankshaft balancer bolt before installation with the Crankshaft balancer installer (J 41998-A). Seal the Crankshaft balancer bolt in place by torquing it to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) for the first application before extending the torque to 120° using the torque/angle meter (J 36660-A) for the second application. Position the engine assembly properly before attaching the right Engine Mount nut to the right Engine Mount bracket while tightening it to a torque of 80 nm (59 ft. Lbs.). You should uninstall the engine support jack and j 44214 before you put on the torque converter cover followed by the installation of the Oil Pan to transaxle brace with bolt torques set to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). To complete the repair you should put back the front fascia extension before installing the right front wheel then lowering the car and installing the Drive Belt.
