2002 Cadillac DeVille Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the harmonic balancer on 2002 Cadillac DeVille?
A: A replacement of the Crankshaft balancer begins with Drive Belt removal before elevating and supporting the vehicle. Start by taking away the right front wheel with a front fascia extension from the wheelhouse before extracting the brace between the engine Oil Pan and transaxle case together with the torque converter cover. First fasten the holder (J 44214) known as flywheel then remove the Crankshaft balancer bolt. The right Engine Mount Bracket needs a suitable jack to maintain support before you remove the nut from its connection to the right Engine Mount Bracket. Suspend the engine assembly to gain access for installing the Crankshaft balancer remover (J 41816) under the body rail. After inserting the remover pilot into the Crankshaft end, remove the Crankshaft balancer using j 41816. Before placing the Crankshaft balancer on its position at the Crankshaft nose you need to check and clean the component. Use the Crankshaft balancer installer (J 41998-B) to install the Crankshaft balancer then clean the bolts with threads on the Crankshaft balancer and apply engine oil to these threads. Beginning by installing the Crankshaft balancer bolt, torque it to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) for the first stage before using the torque/angle meter (J 36660-A) to extend the torque to an additional 120° for the finish. Secure the right Engine Mount to its bracket on the right Engine Mount Bracket using a nut which should be tightened to 80 nm (59 ft. Lbs.). After removing the engine support jack and j 44214 tool you should fasten the torque converter cover and Oil Pan to transaxle brace nuts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). To finish the installation process you must mount the front fascia extension to the wheelhouse and both right front wheels and drive the vehicle to the ground before installing the Drive Belt.
