• Q: How to replace the engine front timing cover on 2002 Cadillac DeVille?

  A: To change the engine front cover, the drive belt tensioner needs to be removed, the drive belt idler pulley bolt and the idler pulley. After that, remove the crankshaft balancer and the right Engine Mount Bracket as well as engine front cover bolts. Slowly remove the engine front cover and gasket while making sure the gasket is not thrown in the discard category until it is destroyed, as it can be reused again. For installation, apply a small amount of sealant gm p/n 12345739 or equal at the split line of the upper and lower crankcases, then insert the engine front cover gasket over the crankcase dowel pins and install the engine front cover on the position. Install the engine front cover retaining bolts, tighten them in the prescribed order, 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Reattach the crankshaft balancer and reposition the right Engine Mount Bracket, followed by the drivebelt idler pulley and its bolt that should be tightened up to 50nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Finally, put back the drive belt tensioner.
