Soak inner race assemblies as well as outer race assemblies, cv joint cage, and balls in cleaning solvent to fully remove old grease and contaminants. Follow with drying of all parts before moving forward. The joint boot assembly process begins with putting a new swage ring onto the small end followed by joint boot insertion onto the halfshaft bar. During installation position the boot into its designated boot groove before putting the small swage tool (J41048) into a vise. Align the outboard end of the halfshaft assembly within the tool's opening. The boot needs a pinch point-free area prior to applying bolts that must be tightened securely. Begin by aligning the boot against the swage ring before tightening each bolt with a ratchet wrench at 180-degree intervals on the small swage tool (J41048). The service-kit grease should receive a thin application onto the ball-groove areas of the inner race and outer race. Next, place the inner race into the cage by keeping the correct alignment. The cv joint needs both cage and inner race components in the outer race position while adding chrome balls after which you'll grease the joint assembly. Utilize the cv joint to push onto the halfshaft bar while making sure the outboard boot maintains its proper shape as the retaining ring properly seats.
