2000 Cadillac DeVille Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the tie rod end on 2000 Cadillac DeVille?
A: To remove the Tie Rod End and fix it, start by using the universal steering linkage puller (J24319-01) and pull the hex nut out from the outer tie rod assembly and loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod assembly. Then, unscrew the outer tie rod assembly from the Steering Knuckle using the puller, and take it away from the inner tie rod assembly . To assemble, fit the outer tie rod assembly into the inner tie rod without screwing the jam nut. Next, align the male end of the outer tie rod assembly with the Steering Knuckle and inset the hex nut over the outer tie rod stud and tighten it to 47 nm (35 ft. Lbs.) and then the nut to a minimum of 70 nm (52 ft. Lbs.) plus an additional 1/6 turn. Repeat the whole process for the second tie rod stud to the hex nut to achieve the same torque specifications. It is very important that the Rack and Pinion Boot is not twisted or puckered when making toe adjustment. Finally, make final adjustment in tying the toe, by moving the inner tie rod as required by the manufacturer's specifications, and torque the jam nut against the outer tie rod to 68 nm (50 ft. Lbs.).
