- Q: How to replace the inner tie rod on 2000 Cadillac DeVille?A: In order to replace the inner Tie Rod, the Rack and Pinion Boot should be removed first. It is vital to prevent the rack while removing the inner Tie Rod from the damage. Start by removing the shock dampener from the minner Tie Rod assembly and pulling it back to the rack. Then take out the inner Tie Rod assembly from the rack assembly by applying a wrench on the flats of the rack assembly and another one on the flats of the inner Tie Rod housing and rotate the inner Tie Rod housing ccw until it detaches from the rack. Clean old loctite(R) from rack's threads and the inner Tie Rod threads. For assembly, slide shock dampener forward onto the rack, and ensure that the threads are clean before application of loctite(R) 262 (or equivalent). Get the inner Tie Rod and attach it to the rack by fitting a wrench on the flats of the rack assembly and a torque wrench on the flats of the inner Tie Rod housing tightening it to 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.). Lastly, push the shock dampener on the inner Tie Rod housing until the front edge of the shock dampener comes in contact with the inner Tie Rod housing . Mount the Rack and Pinion Boot later.
