Cadillac DeVille Tie Rod End Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the outer tie rod end on Cadillac DeVille?
A: Vehicle support and elevation must happen before starting the replacement of the outer Tie Rod End. First remove the wheel and tire combination followed by the removal of the outer tie rod retaining nut followed by jam nut loosening of the inner tie rod. A mechanic can remove the outer tie rod from the Steering Knuckle by using steering linkage and tie rod puller (J 24319-E). You must then separate the outer tie rod from its attachment to the inner tie rod. The outer tie rod installation begins with its attachment to the inner tie rod yet the jam nut should remain loose. After placing the outer tie rod onto the Steering Knuckle you should fasten the outer tie rod retaining nut until torque reaches 47 nm (35 ft. Lbs.) followed by an additional 1/6 turn up to a maximum of 70 nm (52 ft. Lbs.). The last step involves reattaching the tire and wheel to the vehicle while taking care to check the Rack and Pinion Boot maintains its correct position during adjustment of the front toe.
