2000 Chevrolet Camaro Exhaust Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the right exhaust manifold on 2000 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: The first step for right Exhaust Manifold replacement involves removing and sustaining the vehicle for work. You need to detach the 3-way Catalytic Converter before taking out the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer along with the Oxygen Sensor electrical connector from the harness. Proceed by removing the engine lift bracket rosebud that holds the Oxygen Sensor connector then take out the sensor from the Exhaust Manifold. First disconnect and remove wires 4 and 6 from their spark plugs before extracting the number 6 Spark Plug from its position on the Cylinder Head. Lower the vehicle while removing its two rear Exhaust Manifold stud together with its backing nut from the Exhaust Manifold. Use tools to remove the Spark Plug wire from number 2 and remove the number 2 along with number 4 spark plugs from the Cylinder Head. Start by removing heat shield nuts and shields from the Exhaust Manifold and continuing with the extraction of the two front Exhaust Manifold studs and nut. You should remove the right Exhaust Manifold as well as its gasket from the Cylinder Head while taking out the heat shield studs from the Exhaust Manifold whenever needed. First install the Exhaust Manifold heat shield stud when necessary before positioning the right Exhaust Manifold Gasket and manifold on the Cylinder Head studs. Process of installation includes putting the two front Exhaust Manifold studs together with nuts that need 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.) torque and driving Exhaust Manifold nuts to 18 nm (13 ft. Lbs.). Proceed with the installation of Exhaust Manifold heat shields along with their heat shield nut by tightening the nuts to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Fit the pair of spark plugs numbered 2 and 4 to the Cylinder Head before tightening them to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.) while connecting the number 2 Spark Plug wire. Secure the vehicle in the air again so you can begin screwing in the two rear Exhaust Manifold studs and nut until they reach 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.) torque followed by the Exhaust Manifold nut at 18 nm (13 ft. Lbs.). Install the number 6 Spark Plug before tightening it to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.) and associate wires to numbers 4 and 6 Spark Plug wires. The Oxygen Sensor should be mounted to the Exhaust Manifold before connection using a 42 nm (31 ft. Lbs.) torque. The Oxygen Sensor electrical connector rosebud must be placed on the engine lift bracket and the Oxygen Sensor electrical connector attached to the wiring harness. As the last step complete the connection of the retainer before putting in the 3-way Catalytic Converter then lower down the vehicle.
