- Q: How to service and repair the front coil springs and shock absorber on 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier?A: To service and repair the suspension strut, start with tools assembly: strut compressor (J 34013-B), holding fixture (J 3289-20), and strut compressor adapter (J 34013-88). First, remove the strut assembly. Next, fixture the strut compressor (J 34013-B) in the holding fixture (J 3289-20) and install the strut assembly through the strut compressor adapter (J 34013-88). Compress the coil spring, and also the dust cap, and the strut rod piston nut. Disengage the compressed spring and take off the strut assembly from the strut compressor (J 34013-B). Remove the following components from the strut: strut support , dust seal , spring seat , upper insulator , coil spring , spring bumper , and lower insulator , For assembly, immediately join lower insulator , spring bumper , coil spring , upper insulator , spring seat , dust seal , and strut support to the strut. Mount the strut assembly into the strut compressor (J 34013-B) fitted with strut compressor adapter (J 34013-88) and compress the coil spring. Seal the strut rod piston nut with 47 nm (34 ft. Lbs.). Pack the strut support with wheel bearing lubricant gm p/n 1051344, or equivalent and add the dust cap and release the compressed coil spring. Lastly take out the strut from the strut compressor (J 34013-B) and install the strut assembly.
