- Q: How to service and repair the front coil springs and shock absorber on 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier?A: To service and repair the suspension strut, get some tools together: stut compressor (J34013-B), holding fixture (J3289-20), and strut compressor adapter (J34013-88). First, remove the strut assembly. Then, mount the strut compressor (J34013-B) into holding fixture (J3289-20) and mount the strut assembly onto strut compressor (J34013) using the strut compressor adapter (J34013-88). Compact the coil spring. Now take off the dress cap and strut rod piston nut. Uncompressed the spring and took the strut assembly from the strut compressor (J34013-B). Remove the following from the strut: strut support, dust seal, spring seat, upper insulator, coil spring, spring bumper, and lower insulator. For installation, mount lower insulator, spring bumper, coil spring, upper insulator, spring seat, dust seal, and strut support to the strut. Mount the strut assembly into the strut compressor (J34013-B) using struts compressor adapter (J34013-88) and compress the coil spring. Tighten the strut rod piston nut to 47 nm (34 ft. Lbs.), pay the strut support with wheel bearing lubricant gm p/n 1051344 or equivalent; install the dust and then release the compressed coil spring ; and at last, install the strut assembly.
