  A: You should start Water Pump servicing by taking off the battery's negative end and emptying the cooling system while collecting the coolant. Tighten the bolts connected to the coolant pump pulley then take off the accessory Drive Belt. Take away the bolts holding the coolant pump pulley and then remove the pulley part. Detach the surge tank hose from the Water Pump then take off its bolts before removing the entire pump assembly and gasket. Carefully clean both sides where the coolant pump and engine block join each other. Install a fresh gasket when fitting the coolant pump and its bolts. Apply gm p/n 12346004 pipe sealant to the bolts and tighten them to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Securely place and tighten the coolant pump pulley bolts at 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). Put on the accessory Drive Belt second and top up the cooling system before closing the negative Battery Cable. Begin the engine and examine coolant leaks after the motor reaches steady operation. Also check for other leaking components.
