2000 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Air Bag Sensor for Side Impact on 2000 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The first step to install a new Inflatable Restraint Side Impact Sensor requires disabling the SIR system. The process begins by removing the center pillar lower trim followed by detaching the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) from the inflatable restraint side impact sensor yellow 2-way harness connector and disconnecting the wiring harness connector. The inflatable restraint side impact sensor must be taken off the center pillar by releasing its fasteners which are secured at two points. Install the new inflatable restraint side impact sensor on the center pillar by first positioning the sensor before torquing the fasteners to 10 N.m (89 lb in) using hand tools only. Reconnect the yellow 2-way harness connector to begin installing the CPA onto it. Reinstall the center pillar lower trim while enabling the SIR system to function.
