  • Q: How to Replace an A/C Hose in the Evaporator Hose Assembly on 2000 Chevrolet Malibu?
    A: To remove the evaporator hose assembly, first recover the refrigerant and lift up the vehicle. To remove the right wheelhouse splash shield, then use the back up wrench on the accumulator to remove the evaporator hose assembly nut from the accumulator. Dispose of the o-ring seal and unbolt the hose assembly holding the evaporator to the condenser, then the assembly and another o-ring seal. Then, take out the nut that holds the evaporator hose assembly to the evaporator and also remove the assembly, discarding the o-ring seal once more. Loosen the two clips that are attached to the evaporator hose assembly and take the assembly off. For installation, fix the clips that hold the new evaporator hose assembly. Don a new o-ring seal on the evaporator end of the assembly that has been coated with 525 viscosity refrigerant oil, installing the assembly and nut to the evaporator, locking the fitting nut tight with 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Drop a new o-ring seal on the condenser end, cover it with the 525 viscosity refrigerant oil and connect the evaporation hose and bolt at the condenser end, tightening the fitting bolt to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Always make sure to install a new o-ring seal onto the accumulator end, have the o-ring seal dipped into the 525 viscosity refrigerant oil, and attach the evaporator hose onto the accumulator end by tightening the fitting nut to 25 n.m (18 lb ft) using a back up wrench. Re-install the right wheelhouse splash shield; lower the car; recharge the a/c system; check the system operation; conduct the leak test.
