• Q: How to service the ABS Control Module on 2000 Chevrolet Malibu?

  A: Before servicing the ABS Control Module (ABSCM) users need to set the Ignition Switch to off position as a safety measure against equipment destruction. First elevate and stabilize the vehicle on a proper hoist before taking off the left engine splash shield. Push the lock tab downward to detach the connector position assurance from the connector and then open the connector by sliding the cover to the exposed position. Disembark the abscm harness connector from the abscm while cleaning all dirt and debris from the abscm/bpmv assembly. Use caution to prevent tool use that might separate the abscm from the bpmv as you remove the four screws which attach the abscm to the bpmv. Remove the abscm from the bpmv with smooth extraction force until it separates. Before putting the abscm on bpmv you need to clean both components with alcohol through a clean towel. The abscm should be attached to the bpmv through four screws tightened to 5 nm (44 inch lbs.). Insert the abscm harness connector to the abscm hardware after depressing the lock tab before securing the connector cover in its installed position. You must reinstall the left engine splash shield after reinserting the cpa. Check the abs diagnostics while lowering the vehicle according to the a system diagnostic procedure.
