2001 Chevrolet Malibu ABS Control Module Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the ABS Control Module on 2001 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: The bpmv replacement process begins by removing the battery along with its tray while recording the brake pipe positions for later reinstallment. The procedure starts by disconnecting brake pipes from both the caliper and Wheel Cylinder that are attached to the bpmv while using protective end caps for the prevented drippage or contamination. The master cylinder brake pipes also need detached from the bpmv and covered with protective end caps. Lift the vehicle onto a suitable equipment hoist before taking off both the front and left engine splash shields. The connector position assurance (CPA) needs to be detached from the ebcm connector while pushing the lock tab down with the sliding connector cover moved to an open position to remove the ebcm harness connector from the ebcm. Separate the ebcm/bpmv assembly from the vehicle by removing the bpmv retaining nut then extract the combination unit. Finally disconnect the ebcm from the bpmv. The installation process requires ebcm attachment to bpmv followed by tightening four screws to 5 nm (44 inch lbs.) before reinstalling the ebcm/bpmv assembly into the vehicle with a tight bpmv retaining nut at 10 nm (7 ft. Lbs.). After connecting the ebcm harness connector to the ebcm unit you must push down the lock tab while sliding the connector cover back to properly secure it. Insert the cpa into its correct position. When reinstalling both splash shields ensure that brake pipes link properly to the bpmv to prevent wheel lockup. Wheel lockup detection needs either a scan tool or an antilock stop evaluation. You must finalize the brake pipe connections from the master cylinder to the bpmv while applying 24 nm torque (18 ft. Lbs.) before proceeding to connect caliper and Wheel Cylinder break pipes to the bpmv and tightening them to 24 nm torque (18 ft. Lbs.). Install the battery tray and battery before performing the diagnostic system check-abs.
