2000 Chevrolet Metro Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Main Bearing Crankshaft Seal on 2000 Chevrolet Metro?
A: First, remove the transaxle from the car, then Pressure Plate assembly and Clutch Disc. To service and repair the crankshaft main bearing seal, it will be required to remove the transaxle from the vehicle and the Pressure Plate assembly and Clutch Disc. Notice the Flywheel-to-engine and have the six flaywheel retaining bolts and the Flywheel taken out. Next, remove 14 bolts, 2 nuts, the Crankshaft Position Sensor and the Oil Pan of the engine. Get rid of the 5 bolts on the rear main seal housing and pull off the rear main seal housing. Prudently use a hammer and a drift to pull the rear main seal out from rear main seal housing and place the new rear main seal with reverse main seal housing so it is flush inside the housing seal end face. For installation use the j 35271 Flywheel holder to fit rear main seal housing to the cylinder block, with a new gasket and five bolts, line up to 11 nm (97 inch lbs). After the rear main seal housing has been torqued, trim any extra gasket material off from the Oil Pan rail and apply a continuous bead of gm p/n 12346240 or an equivalent to the surface of the mating engine Oil Pan. Install the engine Oil Pan to the cylinder block using 14 bolts and 2 nuts, and tighten to 11 nm (97 in/lbs). Install the gasket and the Drain Plug for the engine Oil Pan, fastening the Drain Plug to 35 nm (26 ft. Lbs.). Next, mount the Crankshaft Position Sensor and bolt it with 11 nm (97 inch lbs.). Mount the Flywheel on to the engine crankshaft using the j 35271 Flywheel holder. Apply gm p/n 12345493 or an equivalent to the Flywheel retaining bolt thread. Lastly, the Flywheel is to be installed and tightened with the six Flywheel retaining bolts, set at 75 nm (55 ft. Lbs.), before replacing the Pressure Plate assembly and the Clutch Disc, and removing the Flywheel holder before installing the transaxle to the vehicle.
