2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Battery Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to properly replace battery cables on 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: The replacement should include battery cables with equivalent types and gauge and identical lengths. The first step involves disconnecting the negative cable from the battery then moving on to remove the positive cable from the battery. The procedure for battery positive cable replacement starts with removing the remote positive stud cover and lead nut of the junction block before moving to disconnect the cable at the underhood accessory wiring junction block. The vehicle needs appropriate support at its elevated position. The installer should eliminate the battery positive cable nut before removing the battery positive cable from the starter motor BAT terminal. Detach battery cable retainers (2,3,4) from the frame before removing the battery positive cable from the wiring harness conduit. Reinstall the battery positive cable through the wiring harness conduit after keeping the retainers (2,3,4) in place on the frame structure. You need to connect the battery positive cable to the starter motor BAT terminal and tighten the starter motor switch BAT terminal nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in). After lowering the vehicle position the battery positive cable along with its lead nut on to the underhood accessory wiring junction block, tighten the lead nut to 15 N.m (11 lb ft). Install the remote positive stud cover then join the battery positive cable to the battery by securely bolting it to 15 N.m (11 lb ft). The last step of the procedure involves reconnecting the battery negative cable to its storage position.
